He Itched. He Sneezed. He Married Me Anyway.

The Outdoor Support Routine That Changed Everything

My husband is allergic to the outdoors.
I wish I were exaggerating.
Meanwhile, I love:
  • Tent camping
  • Hiking
  • Fresh air
  • Basically anything involving sunshine and dirt
Opposites attract. Humanity is hilarious like that.
But when we first got married, spending time outside was miserable for him.
He would:
  • Itch
  • Sneeze
  • Break out in rashes
  • Feel absolutely miserable during pollen season
Thankfully, 37 years later, things look very different.
And honestly? A lot of that came from years of learning how to better support his body naturally.

Why Some People Struggle More During Pollen Season

Marriage has taught me something important:
👉 People really do respond differently to the outdoors.
For some, spring means:
  • Fresh air
  • Open windows
  • Long walks
For others, it means:
  • Congestion
  • Sneezing fits
  • Itchy skin
  • Constant discomfort
The good news is there are simple ways to support the body naturally during high-pollen seasons.
And thankfully, my husband has always trusted me enough to be my unofficial science experiment. 😅
Which usually means I hand him enzymes and essential oils and say:
“Just try it.”

Today’s Tip: If It Ends in “Zyme," Try It

One of the biggest game changers for us has been enzymes.
My two favorites for outdoor support are:
  • Sulfurzyme
  • Essentialzyme
These have become staples in our house during pollen-heavy seasons.

Why Enzymes May Help Support the Body

Enzymes help support how the body processes and responds to stressors—including environmental ones.
Many people notice support with:
  • Digestion
  • Overall wellness
  • Seasonal discomfort
  • Energy and recovery
And honestly, if you’re struggling seasonally, they’re worth exploring.

Essential Oils for Seasonal Outdoor Support

In addition to enzymes, certain essential oils have become part of our regular routine during high-pollen months.

My Favorite Oils for Outdoor Support:

  • Eucalyptus Radiata
  • AromaEase® Essential Oil Blend
  • Lavender

Eucalyptus Radiata for Fresh, Open Breathing

✔ How I Use It

I diffuse Eucalyptus Radiata Essential Oil instead of opening windows on high-pollen days.
It has a fresh, clean aroma that helps the house feel open and refreshed—without inviting all the pollen inside.
You’ll also find similar oils in blends like:
  • R.C.™
  • Raven™
  • Breathe Again™

AromaEase for Clearer, Easier Breathing

✔ How I Use It

I dilute a drop or two of AromaEase Essential Oil Blend with carrier oil, rub it between my palms, and cup my hands over my nose for slow deep breaths.
It helps clear the head enough to keep enjoying outdoor activities comfortably.
Bonus:
It also travels with us because it’s wonderful for motion discomfort and nausea support too.

Lavender: The Most Versatile Essential Oil

✔ Why We Always Keep It Around

Lavender Essential Oil is one of the most versatile oils in the world.
We use it constantly during pollen season because it:
  • Supports calm breathing
  • Soothes irritated skin
  • Promotes relaxation

Pro Tip:

Pair Lavender with Peppermint for an even stronger refreshing effect.

Why Oil Quality Matters

Lavender is one of the most purchased essential oils in the world.
Which means…
Unfortunately, it’s also one of the most heavily compromised.
Many oils on the market contain:
  • Fillers
  • Synthetic fragrances
  • Low-quality ingredients
Quality matters tremendously when you’re using oils regularly in your home and on your body.

The Bottom Line

If pollen season leaves you miserable, don’t assume suffering is your only option.
Simple daily support routines can make a huge difference.
For us, that has included:
  • Enzymes
  • Diffusing supportive oils
  • Using targeted blends consistently
  • Supporting the body instead of fighting it
And after nearly four decades of marriage, I’m very thankful my outdoors-loving self and my formerly-allergic husband can finally enjoy fresh air together. 💛

✨ How do you handle pollen season?
Do you already have a go-to routine—or are you still trying to figure out what works for you?
I’d love to hear what’s helped you most.
Here’s to breathing easier and enjoying the outdoors again. 🌿

WELL, HELLO!

Hi Friend!

I’m Terri Bonin—wife to my favorite dentist (who keeps me smiling in more ways than one!) and mama to eleven incredible kiddos… yep, on purpose! Now, they’re growing up, getting married, and multiplying, so our family is basically the size of a small town!

I’ve homeschooled for over 25 years (with several more to go until our youngest, who’s eleven, graduates). I was crunchy before it was cool and slathering essential oils on my kids before they were a thing. Around here, I share mom hacks, marriage wisdom, wellness tips, and real-life glimpses into our beautifully chaotic, laughter-filled home.

I hope you find this space happy, helpful, and relatable! And if you love good conversations, come hang out with me on my podcast, "Terri Bonin At Home", where we chat about building a strong family culture, natural remedies, and navigating the wonderful (and sometimes wild) world of marriage and motherhood.

Let’s do life together—one drop, one laugh, and one lesson at a time!
