Let's talk about sleep.
Because let's be honest…
A tired mom is a force to be reckoned with. 😆
When I don't get enough sleep, I'm more forgetful, less patient, and somehow even little things feel like big things.
Can anyone relate?
The good news is that getting quality sleep can help you wake up feeling more refreshed, support a positive mood, and give you the energy you need to tackle the day.
The challenge?
Actually getting there.
Sometimes the hardest part isn't being tired…
It's convincing your brain to stop replaying every awkward conversation you've had since 2004.
If your mind races the minute your head hits the pillow, these simple bedtime habits might help.
Why a Good Night's Sleep Matters
Sleep isn't just about feeling rested.
A consistent sleep routine supports many aspects of overall wellness, including:
- Energy levels
- Mood
- Focus and concentration
- Healthy daily routines
- Overall well-being
When we consistently prioritize sleep, everything else seems just a little easier.
1. Set an Alarm for Bedtime (Not Just Wake-Up Time)
Most of us have alarms to wake up.
But do you have one that reminds you to go to bed?
This little habit has made a huge difference for me.
We've all been there.
"Just one more episode..."
Suddenly it's midnight.
Set an alarm about 20–30 minutes before your ideal bedtime.
It gives you enough time to finish what you're doing without accidentally losing another hour.
2. Stay Hydrated During the Day
Hydration supports your overall health, but timing matters too.
I try to drink plenty of water throughout the day, then ease up about an hour before bedtime so I'm not making middle-of-the-night trips to the bathroom.
If you enjoy herbal flavors, adding Lavender Vitalityâ„¢ to water or tea earlier in the day can be a relaxing way to support your evening routine.
3. Turn Your Evening Skincare into a Relaxation Ritual
Instead of rushing through bedtime, make it something you look forward to.
One of my favorite ways to slow down is by:
- Washing my face with warm water
- Using gentle skincare products
- Taking a few extra minutes to massage moisturizer into my skin
That simple routine signals to my brain that the busy part of the day is over.
Sometimes slowing down starts with the smallest habits.
4. Plan Tomorrow Before You Go to Bed
Have you ever climbed into bed only to start making tomorrow's to-do list in your head?
Me too.
Now I write everything down before bedtime.
Appointments.
Errands.
Things I don't want to forget.
Getting those thoughts onto paper helps quiet my mind because I know they'll still be there tomorrow.
5. Put Your Phone Down Earlier
This one isn't always easy.
But it's worth it.
Scrolling social media or watching videos right before bed can make it harder to fully unwind.
Instead, try:
- Reading a book
- Listening to calming music
- Journaling
- Stretching
- Spending quiet time with your family
Even 20 minutes away from your screen can help create a more peaceful transition into bedtime.
6. Create a Relaxing Bedroom Environment
Your bedroom should feel like a place your body associates with rest.
One of my favorite evening rituals is diffusing calming essential oils while I finish getting ready for bed.
I especially enjoy combining:
- Lavender Essential Oil
- Cedarwood Essential Oil
The soothing aroma has become part of my nightly wind-down routine and helps create a peaceful atmosphere.
7. Be Consistent
This might be the most important tip of all.
Our bodies love routines.
Going to bed around the same time each night—even on weekends—can help reinforce your natural sleep schedule.
Perfection isn't the goal.
Consistency is.
My Favorite Natural Sleep Routine
If you walked into my house before bedtime, you'd probably find me doing something like this:
✔ My bedtime alarm goes off.
✔ I finish my water for the evening.
✔ Wash my face.
✔ Moisturize.
✔ Write tomorrow's plan.
✔ Put my phone away.
✔ Diffuse Lavender and Cedarwood.
It's simple.
Relaxing.
And it's become something I genuinely look forward to.
The Bottom Line
Better sleep doesn't usually come from one magical product or one perfect night.
It comes from creating small, consistent habits that tell your brain and body it's time to rest.
Whether you start with a bedtime alarm, a calming skincare routine, or simply putting your phone down a little earlier, every small step counts.
Your future, well-rested self will thank you.
